Is the GeoTIFF export a DEM file?

The GeoTIFF from DroneDeploy is not behaving like a DEM in QGIS. The Elevation Profiler doesn’t work and it needs a DEM. Is the GeoTIFF from DD in fact a DEM? I thought it was.

But the contour shapefile has to be exported from DD and imported into QGIS to get contour lines. Would the shapefile be necessary if the GeoTIFF actually were a DEM?

It depends- you would need to choose “raw elevation values” and then apply a range to the band that comes in. If you chose RGB, you would not get a DEM. You could then overlay the shapefile contour onto the DEM by joining the two layers.
