Did a little more digging and it looks like the free version allows free flight planning of up to 5 projects concurrently and multiple flight plans in each project so that’s all I need for my personal business for now.
Nice!! Then just upload to DD for processing your maps on Individual? I’m kind of turned off from Advance plan on DD, kinda just feels like they’re gouging. I do like their annotation reports though, I think that’s the only thing that keeps me hanging on with Individual.
Question for you Michael. I am not using the RTK through DD since I do not have that subscription. I have the RTK module for my Mavic 3 Enterprise, and also a D-RTK2 Base Station. I want to fly about about a 70 acre site and get survey grade quality (my surveyor said .10’ . She can give me GCPs as needed. My question is, if I am not using the DD RTK network and I use the RTK alone or with the base station and multiple GCPS (I figure about 5), is this ok to do. I was reading that with the DD RTKJ network you only need 1 GCP now which is kind of nice. I am on the West Coast of Florida and have never had problems accessing Ntrip or anything. I currently do not have enough RTK type jobs to justify the next level and after reading, am curious to your bottom lines thought on this for say Florida where I live and work. Is it ready for use or still some bugs to work out ? You always have great insight on these things.
For Survey-grade with DD you’ll need to use GCP’s. There’s just not enough control over the data to guarantee a 1/10th without. It depends on the site shape how many you need but it’s always at least 3. This method with RTK is more of a transformation than anything, just to get the drone data localized. If your 70 acres is fairly rectangular then 4 corners and one in the middle will work, but you will also want at lest 4 checkpoints in between. You may need more depending on the project requirements. When I do TXDOT work they want 10/10, when doing work for someone that is following ASPRS standards then you need 30 total. When I process sitework in Metashape any thing under 100 acres is usually the single point adjustment for elevation calibration with a few checkpoints, but when I do ALTA or Engineering topos I use the 5/4 method. I fly RTK, local NTRIP with DJI Pilot 2. I am sure DroneDeploy has plans for user-corrected flight.
Hi Guys,
Just as an update I noticed that DroneDeploy now allows you to start your RTK flights before completing an RTK lock on the ground. This is great since it fixed my problem completely. I just start the flight and then pause mission and hover at high altitude 200-400ft, and gets lock within 30 seconds usually. Thanks DD.
Can you use your own RTK network?
