Google Earth?

Is it possible to import the 3D maps I create into Google Earth?

Hi Dave,

Via this thread How to view in Google Earth?, here’s how to do this:

To view your maps in Google Earth, you’ll need to do the following:

Export your data : http://support.dronedeploy.com/v1.0/docs/exporting-your-data108
(you can read more about data exports here : http://support.dronedeploy.com/docs/data-output-formats-v246 )

Import into Google Earth:https://support.google.com/mymaps/answer/3024836?hl=en

Please let me know if this works.

Thank you I’ll have a look.

No problem, Dave. Let me know how it goes and if you need anything else.

So Google Earth says that I can import CSV, TSV, KML, KMZ, GPX, or XLSX files. However DroneDeploy exports a .OBJ file so I’m a bit stumped…?

Hi Dave,

This enables you to put an .OBJ in Sketchup. https://extensions.sketchup.com/en/content/simlab-obj-importer-sketchup

Once it is in Sketchup you may be able to take it into Google Earth.

There’s also this:

Please let me know if you need anything else.

hi Kara,

I hope youre well. im having problems exporting and opening anything up on google earth…so far all i can open up is the elevation output…i ideally want to open up the orthomosaic and a 3D output if at all possible…all i get are the big red X’s. i would be most grateful for your assistance… btw i followed the instructions but i cannot open files in sketchup and no combination of opening files is successful. thank you in advance

Hi @Bobak9,

Have you taken a look at Troubleshooting for Exports, especially the section that says “I get a red X on my KML files in Google Earth”?

Cheers,
Christina

The links you shared are dead. Can you share the new ones?

It’s cool if can insert the google earth into the Autopilot.

Hi @Brent,

Here are the updated links for the articles Kara shared. We just updated our Support documentation to version 2 so any posts referencing old support pages will have different, new links.

  1. Exporting Your Data
  2. Data Export Formats
