DroneDeploy app crashes during flight and FAA Authorization issues

Do you think it coincides with the Fall Release update? I know sometimes they update automatically so it’s hard to tell, but this is the second recent report in the forum.

Did you have an Android update? my pixel updated to 10 and DroneDeploy has not worked since then. Still fine on iOS though. Do you have another device to try?

Well it says that the DD app was last updated on the 18th so you may have a point. My phone running Android 9 so I don’t think it’s a problem with my phone. I only have android at this time but I’ll see if I can get access to an iOS device. Are you thinking its an issue with the app or your phone OS?

I normally fly with an iPad, but I’m pretty sure it’s my phone’s (Pixel 3XL) OS as it went from beta Q to release 10 from Google. One of the disclaimers in the beta program was that it could have issues with apps that were using location services. The iPad is in 13 now and has worked regardless of OS version.

So, it looks like I now need to finally get an iOS device of my own. Are there any drawbacks to using an iPad Mini? That looks to be the cheapest option for me.

I used an iPad Mini 4 for several months without any issues. Anything less than that does not have enough horsepower and will overheat. Just a 32GB wifi model will work. You can hotspot your phone.

I would definitely email support though and be prepared to submit logs. It may be a bug in the new release.

Gotcha, thanks for the advice. I will email support as well.

And just to confirm, you had no issues operating with a wi-fi only iPad operating off of a hot spot enabled phone?

None. As a matter of fact sometimes my phone has better service than my iPad does.

Great, thanks for confirming. I just picked up an iPad Mini 5. Hopefully that will resolves my issues.

Good move, happy flying! Keep us posted on what happens with support.

Will do, I’ll post their reply when I get one.

I haven’t even been able to launch the app on my Pixel 3 for at least several months. I have had to use an ipad to fly. I sent a support request but never heard anything back. So, most likely an OS compatibility issue.

Yeah, I am confident that it is an Android stability issue.

I got a response back from Drone Deploy and in a nutshell they said that they wouldn’t help me through the support email because it was for paying customers only. If I wanted to get help then I needed to get it through the forum or watch tutorial videos.

The next Android version of DroneDeploy (3.19) will have the latest DJI SDK which will stop Android 10 crashes. Thanks!

Correct. Android 10 on the Pixel’s is having issues with apps that use both GPS and location services. Most of my satellite and drone apps are not working properly or immediately shutting down. I believe the next update of Android should address some of these issues, but that doesn’t mean it is going to fix our apps.

I have iPad and Android tablet. DD will not work with my Android but works fine with the iPad. I have the latest updates from DD. I did one 160 acre mapping this week went without a flaw.
