Currently when doing planimetrics (edge annotations) each piece of linework drawn is given a separate layer name and when doing a large asbuilt survey it is not possible to manage a CAD file with hundreds of layers. We should be able to use the annotation title as the layer and linework with the same title will then be grouped into a proper layer in CAD. A step further would be to supply a dropdown like in volumes/materials that is persistent as you draw from object type to object type. Last but not least it would be nice if the colors translated.
Is anyone else out there doing planimetrics? What are you using?
We have pulled in a few clients that want this as their main deliverable. We actually have a golf course to map in a couple of weeks and can do it in CAD the way we always have but I know there are better solutions out there. I am playing with it in Carlson Precision 3D Topo but have never used the feature recognition module. We usually just DTM and do the linework in Carlson Civil.
