When you measure a distance between two points on the map, is it measuring the horizontal distance between the two points or is it measuring the actual distance between the two points and accounting for any elevation changes?

@aprobert My experience is that it is giving you the horizontal, or plan view distance between each point. I have used Civil 3D to measure the three dimensional distances; however, you could just use Pythagorean theorem https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pythagorean_theorem to determine your values.
