The 2D maps are exactly as I had intended, but the 3D map captured a whole additional unintended area. What can I do to prevent this in the future? Can one edit / crop the view in 3D afterwards?
not within our software @hawkeye , but a tool like Blender or something similar will allow you to use the downloaded .obj file to edit further.

As mentioned the 2D map followed the proper boundaries while the 3D view included an extended area that was not within the photographed area and so was rendered poorly. What could have caused this?
