EPSG Codes

Hello,

I am looking for some clarification on EPSG codes. Any help is appreciated.

We are working with a new company and the engineering group is very confused about the EPSG code. They have never heard of them before. Are EPSG codes always the same for the same area?

For example: we’ve worked with another company that provided us with EPSG 3452 which is Louisiana South. Does that mean if another surveying company provides GCP data, the EPSG code with also be 3452 if we are shooting the the exact general area?

The new company is using a TOPCON RTK System. They don’t have any issue providing the Easting/Northing/Elevation data, they just get stumped when I ask for the EPSG code.

Any idea? Thanks!

EPSG is the equivalent to the coordinate system they use. Just ask them for the spatial reference/Coordinate System, they are using. Most Engineering firms will use some sort of State Plane Coordinate system or UTM. Once they give you that info, you should be able to go to the EPSG website and find the code. http://www.spatialreference.org/ref/epsg/3452/

Thanks bbrasel,

I called and confirmed they are using “Louisiana State Plane - South Zone” - Do you agree that this coordinates with EPSG 3452? http://www.spatialreference.org/ref/epsg/3452/

yes. that is correct.
